How long will Putin hang on to power? I Inside Story

He’s Russia’s longest-serving leader since Soviet dictator Josef Stalin.
And if you are a Russian and you are under 20, you’ve never known another leader.
His critics fear he’s preparing to be ‘president for life’.
The 67 year old has backed a constitutional amendment to reset his presidential term count to zero, allowing him to run in another two elections.
The lower house of parliament passed the legislation on Tuesday.
And Russians are due to have their say in a constitutional referendum next month.
The amendments are the latest in a choreographed process that began in January.
Putin argues staying in power after his term ends will be good for Russia.
But how convinced are his critics?

  1. putin is your best guarantie for stability… too much expansionist spirit on this channel… to much lack of reason…

  2. How ever long President Putin remains leader of Russia is a decision of the Russian people. Furthermore, its none of anybody's business unless you are a citizen of Russia. In the United States it is a Wall Street and capitalist musical chairs game. When is the US musical chairs game going to end.

  3. The best politician and a President ,V. Putin will remain in power as long as Russians want him to be their President .

  4. Stop behaving like Americans and yelling the news at us. You are turning into an ugly CNN!!!

  5. I didn't know that this Al-Jazeera news belonged to USA. Same fake news and hate news as other western media

  6. What's the problem you have, when the English people come out from their grudge? Why you always want to run the world according to yours thoughts? Its Russian country, and its their problem who gonna rule or not, why are you interfering in their matters.

  7. Real question is: How long will Tamin al thani will hang on to power? but of course the lack of balls from the journalist who did this video is obvious!!!

  8. Putin= Russia, without him, west "democracy" will spread and destabilize his work.He should stay forever!!

  9. Lets be clear- WHEN you introduce guest PLEASE ADD who funds there organisations or pays there wages Then the narrative gets some sense of ballance

  10. How long will Putin hang on to power?
as long as the russian people wish him to and show it in elections. – a concept this terrorist network will never comprehend.

  11. stalin was not leader of russia but soviet union. russia is not soviet union. twisted aljazeeraterrorist news. look at your kings, rulers and dictators for life without being elected.

  12. As long as 'Al Thani' dynasty rules QATAR. AL Jazeera is a joke in the name of impartial journalism…. You suck up to these Islamic states.

  13. Same face same rhetoric same ideas same same same. Ruble has been in decline for over twenty years. This is actually good since they are a major exporter of metals such as nickel. They sell it dirt cheap ha ha long live Putin! We don’t need another competitor eating up our resources

  15. Putin will stay forever. Why? We have corruption and injustice everywhere and citizens don't trust USA…

  16. It seems that Mr. Putin is such an outstanding success, so far ahead, he's showing how tawdry, ordinary, useless many of the other leaders are. They'd do not want to let him put them in the also ran group! Too bad for them, he brought a breath of fresh air to leadership.

  17. if he's so good as russians / trolls say, why does he need to fix elections and prevent other parties from standing?

  18. As long as Russians vote for comrade Putin, its all fine. "if its not broken, dont fix it". world is safer with him in power.

  19. I think he has no other choice. He surely has domestic enemies they wouldn't let him enjoy his retirement when he's out of power. Second, Russian assembly members don't want to loose their chairs when a new president is in power. One Russian friend of mine told me that the last election was ridged. He has support from old Russian generation and they're very patriotic.

  20. This is why mike Bloomberg who is worth $60 billion try to run for USA president because Money can be measure you can’t measure POWER!!
